Our history

As of its origin in 1878, SGS proposes its services of inspection to the traders of agricultural produce which wishes to be represented with the loading and the unloading of the ships. In the course of time, we developed the extent of our services and our presence in the whole world. As of the middle of the 20th century, SGS diversified its activities by proposing its services of inspection, analysis and control to other sectors such as the industrial sectors, mining, oil or among many others, that of gases and chemicals. Since 1981, the company is quoted on the stock exchange. Since 2001, SGS is organized according to 10 branches of activity present in 10 geographical areas. In constant growth since 1878, SGS is today the leader of its sector. This position is the fruit of our engagement for the continuous improvement and the innovation which enables us to support our customers in their activities and to contribute to reduce their risks and to improve their productivity.

In order to be the best, we improve our competences as regards test unceasingly, of inspection, checking and certification which are in the middle of our trade and what we are. The markets on which we intervene are selected according to our capacity with being most competitive and offering to our customers of the unequalled services, as well at the local level as transnational.
